Frank Sinkwich won the 1942 Heisman Trophy playing with a broken jaw wired shut behind a custom faceguard — running, passing, and punting his way through the SEC like pain was just a suggestion. Sinkwich was the first player in Georgia history to win the Heisman, rushing for over 2,000 career yards and throwing for nearly 3,000 more in an era when those numbers were almost unthinkable. Charley Trippi was the electrifying halfback who could do it all — run, catch, return kicks, and play defense with a fluid athleticism that made him one of the most versatile players college football had ever seen. Together in 1942, Sinkwich and Trippi led the Georgia Bulldogs to an 11-1 record and the Rose Bowl, where they beat UCLA 9-0 to claim the national championship. Sanford Stadium was rocking and the Bulldogs were the best team in America. Trippi would later be named to the College Football and Pro Football Halls of Fame.
