The St. Louis Bombers were one of the original franchises in the Basketball Association of America — the league that would eventually merge with the National Basketball League to form the NBA. Playing from 1946 to 1950, the Bombers were part of professional basketball's earliest days, competing at the St. Louis Arena alongside some of the sport's pioneering players. The Bombers made the BAA playoffs in their first two seasons and featured notable players like Johnny Logan, Belus Smawley, Easy Ed Macauley, and Red Rocha. Macauley, a six-time All-Star, went on to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame after his time with the Bombers and later the Celtics. Despite their competitive spirit, financial difficulties plagued the franchise, and the Bombers folded after the 1949-50 season — the NBA's inaugural year following the merger. St. Louis wouldn't have professional basketball again until the Hawks arrived in 1955.
