San Antonio Wings Vintage Logo Shirt - Retro Defunct Football Shirt

The San Antonio Wings gave the Alamo City its first taste of major league professional football during the World Football League's 1975 season. The franchise was born when the Florida Blazers — the 1974 World Bowl runners-up who had pushed the Birmingham Americans to the final play of the championship game — folded after the season and had their franchise rights relocated to San Antonio. The Wings merged with the semi-pro San Antonio Toros and set up shop to bring WFL football to South Texas. The team played its home games in the Texas heat and gave San Antonio fans a glimpse of what big-time professional football could look like in a city that wouldn't get another shot at a major football franchise until the USFL's Gunslingers arrived nearly a decade later. The Wings competed for part of the 1975 season before the entire WFL collapsed in October, ending the brief experiment.
