Los Angeles Sharks Vintage Logo Shirt - Retro Defunct Hockey Shirt

The Los Angeles Sharks were the World Hockey Association's entry into the Southern California hockey market, playing two seasons at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena from 1972 to 1974. The Sharks were one of the WHA's charter franchises and brought professional hockey to a market that the NHL's Kings were still establishing. The roster featured some legitimate talent, including Gary Veneruzzo, who led the team in scoring during their inaugural season, and tough defenseman Bart Crashley. The Sharks made headlines by signing players away from NHL clubs and gave LA hockey fans a scrappy, entertaining alternative to the Kings. Despite the warm weather and a market still learning to love hockey, the Sharks drew respectable crowds in their first year. Financial struggles ultimately doomed the franchise, and after the 1973-74 season the Sharks relocated to Michigan as the Michigan Stags before that franchise also folded. The Sharks remain a unique piece of Los Angeles sports history from the wild early days of the WHA.
