The Lincoln Giants were Harlem's team, and in the 1910s, they were flat-out terrifying. Sol White assembled a roster that read like a future Hall of Fame ballot — Pop Lloyd, the greatest shortstop Black baseball ever produced. The Lincoln Giants won the unofficial Eastern Championship in 1911, 1912, and 1913, and beat Rube Foster's Chicago American Giants for the National Black Championship in 1913. They played at Olympic Field in Upper Manhattan, drawing huge crowds of Black and white fans who came to see the best baseball being played anywhere in New York City. The Lincoln Giants later joined the Eastern Colored League in the 1920s and remained a force through 1930.
