Diehard Arizona Wildcats fans remember the 1993 "Desert Swarm" defense like it was yesterday. Tedy Bruschi and Rob Waldrop were the twin terrors who turned Arizona Stadium into a house of horrors for opposing offenses. Bruschi set a school record with 19 sacks as a sophomore that season — 19! — earning second-team All-America honors, first-team All-Pac-10, and Wildcats MVP. Waldrop was the immovable nose guard who won the Outland Trophy as the nation's best interior lineman, clogging the middle and freeing Bruschi to wreak havoc off the edge. Together they anchored a defense that led the nation in scoring defense and rushing defense, powering Arizona to its first-ever 10-win season and a Fiesta Bowl victory over Miami where Bruschi took home MVP honors. Bruschi went on to win three Super Bowls with the Patriots and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013. That 1993 squad put Wildcats football on the national map forever.
