Named after Atlantic City mayor Harry Bacharach, this club rose from humble beginnings in 1916 to become one of the most feared teams on the East Coast. Pop Lloyd — the man Babe Ruth was once compared to, not the other way around — managed and played for the Giants. Dick Lundy was a magician at shortstop. Oliver Marcelle held down third like his life depended on it. Cannonball Redding threw gas. The Bacharach Giants won back-to-back Eastern Colored League pennants in 1926 and 1927, and their pitchers Claude Grier and Luther Farrell each threw no-hitters in the Negro League World Series — the only no-hitters in Series history. They played at Bacharach Park, they barnstormed across the country, and they helped build the foundation of Black professional baseball in America.
