Wearing hand-me-down Cincinnati Reds uniforms, the Tigers played their home games at Crosley Field and drew as many as 15,000 fans to the ballpark. In 1937, the Tigers became charter members of the Negro American League, elevating the club to major league status. Players like Howard Easterling, Jesse Houston, and pitcher-turned-manager Dizzy Dismukes gave the Tigers a competitive roster, and many of the team's original players came from the city's beloved Black amateur club, the Excelsiors. The Tigers folded after the 1937 season, with many of their players joining the Memphis Red Sox.
